Maine Watermelon Tourmaline Pendant.
A striking slice of Maine watermelon tourmaline, preserved almost exactly as nature created it. This pendant is one of six matching slices cut from a single larger crystal, a rare opportunity to own part of an extraordinary find from the famous Dunton Quarry in Newry, Maine.
The tourmaline material was discovered between 1972 and 1974, during one of the most celebrated periods of Maine gem mining. Rich pink crystal naturally framed by green “rind” creates the classic watermelon appearance collectors search for, especially in slices this balanced and vibrant. Material of this quality has become increasingly difficult to find today.
Hand constructed by Dennis Creaser, the setting is made in 14k yellow gold, with white gold behind the green edge to subtly brighten and define the rind coloration. The simple handcrafted mounting allows the natural beauty and crystal structure of the slice to remain the focus.
Every inclusion, color transition, and organic edge tells the story of a crystal formed deep within the earth millions of years ago. A beautiful collector’s piece and a wearable example of rare Maine tourmaline history.
